About My Work
About Me
My name is Flo McDonald and I have recently completed a degree in Interior Design, with a focus on creating intentional, wellbeing-led spaces that encourage comfort, connection, and atmosphere. I first developed my passion for design while studying Design and Technology at A-Level, where I became increasingly interested in how careful design can influence the way people feel and interact.
Having grown up abroad in Thailand, I was exposed to a wide range of cultures, environments, and architectural styles from an early age. This experience has strongly influenced my creative perspective and appreciation for culturally immersive, nature-connected, and sensory design. I am particularly inspired by organic materials, warm atmospheres, and function-focused interiors that create meaningful experiences for users.
About My Project
This project reimagines the Wattstown building in Porth, Wales, as a calming and nature-led hostel retreat designed to support relaxation and connection. Inspired by the surrounding mountain landscape, the design focuses on creating warm and immersive spaces through the use of natural materials, organic textures, and soft atmospheric lighting. The project combines private pod-style accommodation with communal spaces, encouraging both comfort and social interaction whilst enhancing the overall experience of retreat and escape.
